This Week in Trailers

This week in movie trailers.

The Croods

The Croods - Dreamwork's latest animation, looks like Ice Age, but with people. Starring Nicolas Cage as Grug the caveman, Emma Stone as his daughter, and Ryan Reynolds as Emma Stone's love interest. I'm really looking forward to this! The little "Belt" guy looks like a winner (and so says all the public), falling into the same club as the Minions from Despicable Me and Katie from Horton Hears a Who. Not really expecting to see anything new here, minus the obvious usual advances in CG animation. Australian release date 28 March, 2013 [IMDB]

Oblivion

Oblivion - Looking nice, I'm feeling that it will be a movie that I won't be overly keen for, but may be worth a watch when it comes out. Graphics looking really awesome here. It's good to see more films being released with clean "Apple-style" technology, as opposed the the dirty, grunty, used machinery that alot of sci-fi action films that we've been seeing for the past few years. It kinda looks like a one-man hero film, which doesn't really catch me. I don't think we'll see much depth, maybe a stab at some character development? Still, looks like a good dose of sci-fi action. Plus I'm really happy to see Olga Kurylenko in here. Maybe an overdose of Tom Cruise at the moment, seeing him in Mission Impossible, Rock of Ages, Jack Reacher and more to come (including Van Helsing...?) Damn, Mr Cruise has been busy! Australian release date 11 April, 2013 [IMDB]

After Earth

After Earth - Now THIS is a trailer that catches my attention. I cannot wait to see the crash scene on the big screen! Kinda like a sci-fi version of "The Grey", but with Will Smith and his boy. I am so much more excited for this movie than Oblivion. Judging from the trailer it looks to be more CG heavy, with a bigger payoff. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan (The Happening, The Last Airbender), you can see his experience in horror/thriller films in the past has given him an edge in the crash scene that we see in the first 30secs of the trailer. Hoping this movie will redeem him from his horrible, horrible movie past.. *cough* THE HAPPENING *cough cough*. Australian release on 6 June, 2013 [IMDB] (one week before the giant Man of Steel)..

Man of Steel

Man of Steel - Wow. When I found out that my two all-time favourite movie makers teamed up to create a film, I wet myself. Story goes Christopher Nolan (Dark Knight trilogy) was brought on as a creative consultant only to help out on screenplay, and when Zack Snyder (Watchmen) was brought on as director, Nolan handed it over to him. But OMG. This trailer does epic. Hard. Man of Steel features Henry Cavill as Superman, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as General Zod. This being an already great cast, add to it Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Clark Kent's "parents", and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White ("Great Caesar's ghost!"). Words cannot describe how keen I am right now. Totally fan-boying it up in here. I love the dark overtone in the trailer, with Clark's dad suggesting it may have been better to let a bus full of children die to protect his secret, Clark's own battle with self-discovery, and who he chooses to be. Plus some huge action-disaster sequences that definitely can't hurt.. KEEN! Australian release date on 13 June, 2013 [IMDB]
